Transformando el Futuro, Madre e Hija

On August 15, we celebrated our first Transformando el Futuro, Madre e Hija Conference. It was designed for 6th graders girls, and their mothers. We are so excited and thankful for the mothers’ response to this event; taking the time to be with their daughters for these special moments.

It’s amazing to see the transformation each girl goes through during life, going from one stage to another. As women we know how difficult these times are, and most of the time as little girls, we can’t understand what is going on inside us. We believe the relationship between mother and daughter is really important. That’s why, we need to be fully prepared with the correct and age-appropriated information to talk with our girls.

We talked about how EVERYBODY changes. We learned about physical, emotional and social changes that every boy and girl goes through. This helped the mothers to talk easily about the way the body of a girl develops with their daughters. This is an important subject that most of the time is set aside because we don’t know how to start.

During the second part of the conference we talked about how important and special each girl is and the treasure they possess. We learned the definition of sex and the possible consequences of being sexually active before marriage: Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Emotional Consequences and Pregnancy. The girls learned how abstinence gives them freedom to live their lives and reach their goals and dreams and at the same time, gives them freedom from all the consequences.

We had lots of fun during The Fashion Show performed by the girls. They experienced the different reactions people have to the way they dress. They realized how important it is to dress with modesty and age-appropriately. They learned some rules on how to select their clothes when they are shopping. The moms also realized the influence they have in their daughters lives on this topic and how to set some rules.

The most special moment during this conference was when they made a commitment to each other. The mothers committed to support their daughters to be abstinent until marriage, and having a better relationship. The daughters committed to be abstinent until marriage, for themselves and their future husbands and families. In this way they will be united, Transformando el Futuro, Madre e Hija.
