Practicing What We Teach: Goal-Setting

The key to any great organization is goal-setting. Since one of the main teaching points of Reality Check, Inc. is goal-setting, it’s important that we set some ourselves. Starting out in October 2008, the beginning of our school year, we set a goal. It wasn’t just any goal. It was a goal to reach, teach, and inspire students as well as adults to create a better future for themselves. Our goal was to reach 10,000 students/adults from October 2008 – October 2009.

We are pleased to announce that we not only MET our goal but we will EXCEEDED our goal, reaching over 13,000 in a year’s time by October 01, 2009.

The numbers for this accomplishment are as follows:

Under CBAE: 10,589 (12-18 year olds), 307 (19-29 year olds), 1,496 (parents/teachers), for a total of 12, 392.

Under Private funding: 312 (12-18 year olds), 78 (19-29 year olds), 125 (parents/teachers), for a total of 515.

Adding Private and CBAE numbers for a total of 12,893 as of Sept. 23.

We conservatively predict that between Sept. 23 - Oct. 1, we will see 484 (12-18 year olds) and 25 (parents/teachers), possibly having a combined total of 13,402.

To break down our goal even further, we want to ensure that our message is being received well. We have to make sure there is a measure to grade whether the students understand the medically-accurate information and make it a personal goal for their lives. We follow a grading system to ensure consistency in creating this measurement.

At the end of every program, we hand the students a 4x6 note card and ask them one question, “What impact did this class have on you?” They write their answers anonymously on these cards and turn them back in. This gives us immediate feedback. Their answers are then put through the grading system below”

A = Strongly Agree,
B = Agree,
C = Got Information,
F = Disagree

According to last year’s documented measurements, we received “impact card” feedback from the students of:

This is an exciting accomplishment for Reality Check, Inc. We can’t help getting excited at the lives, futures, and vision of the incredible 13,000+ individuals that were directly changed and effected last year.
